THE CHILDREN THE CULTURE AND THE FUTURE

The children on traditional attires
Train up a child in the way he/she should go, when he/she is old, he will not depart from it”. If we can instill the acceptance of each other’s culture into the younger generation, they will grow to teach others to accept each other. This is aimed at building CULTURE (Co-operation, Understanding, Love, Tolerance, Unity, Respect and Evenness of mind) amongst people of different Ethnic groups.
Food, more than just ending, hunger and facilitating growth and nutrition, can also promote peace and unity in a nation as food
is an act that connects people together, as we can feel a sense of sincerity coupled with excitement when food becomes the topic of conversation. The acceptance we are talking about here is a situation where a person from the Northern region of Nigeria eats and he or she is comfortable where the ‘Ofe Onugbo’ of the Eastern region is eaten; and a Western region (Yoruba) eats and he or she is comfortable where the Kekefia (K.K.F) of the Southern region is been eaten. This is a contribution of peace to the Society.

Over the years, parents have grown their children to reject our traditional food and many have grown to do that. Now they frown their faces at the saying of garri, fufu, tuwo, amala etc. This has in turn hidden the beauty of our culture and caused enmity between those who loved it and those trained to hate it. If this is not stopped now we will end in doom as a country and as a continent cause the future of this great nation lies in our hands. Let us stand together to unite ourselves. No matter the knowledge of technology, culture remains the true source of PEACE and SECURITY.
Improving on culture doesn’t mean throwing it away. When culture is not well treated, it will bounce back every form of development. Every culture wants recognition. Today IPOB, Niger Deltans and many more will arise if we don’t find a way to improve on the intercultural relationship, bring to limelight minority, create cultural awareness in rural and urban area other cultures and kill the habit of ethnocentrism in the majority.  Even when people are hungry, because of the hatred they have for our food and other culture, they find it difficult to accept help in form of food waiting to get help from the foreign world or federal government. Embrace the culture of others with respect because we are all we have, so let us defend our land and make a great nation.
