Cultural Unity: A Clarion Call

Culture is said to be people’s way of life. This is to say that every person living has a culture that is similar, same or different to that of another person. Culture also controls our everyday activities. It is also pertinent to note that no man was created in an island of his own and for this reason, no two persons can be the same, but only have similarities. L’ACUDE encourages diversity because it is in the differences of our abilities that set goals, visions and dreams can be attained better.

An African adage says, “if you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far, go with people.” The importance of diversity cannot be overemphasized. Diversity is the beauty of life.  This can be illustrated in a typical example of building a dream house. The services of an architect, mason, plumber, electrician, carpenter, florist etc. are needed in order to get the perfect house of one’s choice. Only one profession cannot do it all.

“Culture shapes the way we see the world. It therefore has the capacity to bring about the change of attitudes needed to ensure PEACE and sustainable development which, we know, form the only possible way forward for life on planet Earth. Today, that goal is still a long way off. A global crisis faces humanity at the dawn of the 21^st century, marked by increasing poverty in our asymmetrical world, environmental degradation and short-sightedness in policy making. Since there are diverse cultures, L’ACUDE beckons on all culture to tolerate, understand and accept individual and group differences and abilities of one another. By doing this, we can achieve a lot more, promoting good intercultural relationship, peaceful co-existence and achieve Development.

L’ACUDE preaches the love for culture and is passionate about development. Living out these words, is trying to create a synergy between culture and development. This movement involves all and sundry. Alone L’ACUDE can do so little but together we can do so much at achieving this goal and creating a better future for generations to come.
